Fjärilshuset

Hey,
Because last time we went to the Fjärilshuset we forgot to bring our picture camera, we unfortunately had to go again. Unbearable I know. A good opportunity to test also our new picture camera. As you can see, it works perfectly. It is still a bit strange to just drop your camera in a pond to make pictures (the camera can also make under water pictures), but the results are funny.
So enjoy the pictures.......
A relatively small but beautiful butterfly

Huge butterflies eating something tasty (at least for butterflies) from a silk flower

The eye of the butterfly

Big bigger biggest

A moth of just 20 cm in width

Nice flowers

And funny walking birds. A ball of feathers on 2 legs
A butterfly to be

"Molecularians" in Stockholm

After many visits from different kinds of people, it was time for some good old (former-)Molecular people to come over and visit us here in Stockholm: Janneke, Jip, Esther and Daniel. I hadn't seen Esther in a long time, her going to the states, me being in Italy afterwards and she again moving to England, so that was nice seeing her again. The others I had seen the week before, but it's always nice to see them anyway :-). They arrived about a week after midsummers eve, but didn't need to worry: the sun was still setting around 11 in the evening and rising around 3 in the night, so plenty of light! Well, at least when the clouds were gone, and unfortunately that didn't happen too often. The rain just kept pouring from te sky, as you can see on the rainy pictures below. But what can you do! You're not too often in stockholm, at least they aren't, so it's out to the city anway, and if it rained too heavily, we just walked into a cafe to have a coffee or a piece of pie (they were lovely!). We did our own baking and cooking as well as you can see: no weekend with a bunch of moleculairen without some heavy cooking of course! We tried out the crayfish as well. They weren't that great I have to say. They could have used another minute or two boiling, or maybe it was not yet the right season to eat them (that's around late august/beginning september), in any case I think we should try them again sometime. And whatever they lacked in taste, they compensated for with looks! They cold rain got to me a bit and I didn't feel quite fit enough to go out, and Lianne joined me in that. The others were still full of energy and had a good nights out in some pubs close to medborgarplatsen, where they seriously enjoyed all the drunken Swedes. It turned out that Dutch sounds really very similar, as some swedish drunken men hitting on our friends didn't have any trouble at all with a language barrier. In fact, they didn't even feel the need to talk in English, and hardly even noticed that our friends were replying in Dutch. Maybe it also works the other way around, so maybe I should try one day to walk around drunk at the lab and see if all of a sudden I will understand the Swedish people around me... We enjoyed the weekend very much, I hope they did too. But enough incoherent talk for now, time for some incoherently placed pictures instead!

Rain, what can you do!
Kreftskiva! They look more interesting than they taste, at least when I prepare them... Food! And lots of it Guess what, more rain, we weren't particularly lucky this weekend

One thing swedes are really good at making: pie! or "paj" in swedish (much better than their coffee-making skills)

Good morning sunshine...

holland

Hi everybody,

So, as most of you reading this know, we've been in holland last week! As of last week, we're officially not registered anymore as living in holland. So that's official now. Next to arranging some last official BSc diploma copies and transcript of records, off course last week was also a time of visiting our friends and family. Thank you all for the hospitality! We really enjoyed ourselves, playing 'Kubb', all the nice dinners with everyone (great Indonesian dinner!), seeing your new place Jurriaan & Janine, and of course seeing our family again. Although it was quite exhausting, we enjoyed it all!
Well then, that's it for now, just a short message to thank everyone. Tomorrow some of our friends are coming over: daniel, janneke, janneke & esther. More about that later in the week! Probably also with some pictures taken with our brandnew camera, a Pentax Optio W20. See you then!
